Two weeks in Slovenia and Croatia

My husband and I (64 and 60) just returned from two weeks in Slovenia and Croatia. This itinerary worked very well for us. We flew into Zagreb, picked up our rental car (from Fleet via EconomyCarRentals.com) and drove less than two hours to Ljubljana. Stayed two nights at Slamic B&B in large, modern room with excellent breakfasts every morning plus secure parking in their courtyard. Dinner at Friday night Food Festival in market area near river between Dragon Bridge and 3 bridges. Excellent "free" tour on Saturday from http://www.ljubljanafreetour.com/ -- no reservations required, gave generous tip as tour was well worth the 2.5 hours! Fun art and antique market by river on Sunday morning. Drove to Bled on Sunday for three nights at Hotel Berc. Again had a spacious room and nice bathroom and large breakfast. Enjoyed most of the restaurants we tried. Best Cream Cake at "Brown Bear" over near the church. Drive to waterfall and part of Julian Alps loop. Rented row boat and took picnic to the island! Such fun!
One night in Piran at PachaMama -- good location, but very small room! Lovely town to walk around, but didn't really need more than a couple of hours here. Next 3 nights in Rovinj, Croatia at my favorite Casa Garzotto 3rd floor room. B'fast nearby in lovely setting. Borrowed bikes from hotel and spent several hours exploring the seaside paths up into the forests and hillside areas. Very good restaurants including La Puntuleina and a perfect sunset dinner on outdoor terrace. Day trips to Pula and its Roman arena and hill town of Motovun. Drove back to Zagreb on Sunday arriving just in time to visit their outdoor antique market. Stayed two nights at Sobe Zagreb 17 -- ideal location near restaurants and sites. We were ready to go home by now and rested in the lovely room much of the time. More information and pictures on my blog at http://lasthomebeforeheaven.com . This was a perfect time of year to visit -- temps in 60's and 70's, not crowded. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful locals everywhere we went and most spoke very good English. Would highly recommend this trip. Sue P.
