Turkish Bath in Antalya

If you visit Turkey, it's worth getting a Turkish bath, my favorite experience during a recent two-week visit.

I went to the Demirhan Hamam (https://www.antalyademirhanhamam.com) bathhouse in Antalya, which is on the Mediterranean coast. After the attendants welcomed me, they took me to a private changing room.

The first step was a dry sauna, where I sat for about 10 minutes. If guests wanted to cool down, water was available from faucets or taps. The next step was the soaping and cleansing room. An attended splashed me with medium-heat soap a couple times and used a loofah to scrub my skin. I saw my skin on his brush. Then I turned over, and he repeated the process. I doubt I have been cleaner in my life. This took about 15 minutes, too.

Then I got to rest. The attendants wrapped me like Lawrence of Arabia, and I sat in a lounge in a large room to cool off for about 15 minutes. I was given apple tea to drink and could watch TV. The final step was a massage for about 15 minutes.

The bath cost 1,800 Turkish lira, which equates to about $52. My tip was 200 TL, which is about $6, for a total cost of $59 or so. It was worth every penny.

Craig, thanks for the info. In two years I will be spending a month in Antalya, so I added the link to my list.

Many of my Rick Steves tour group also went to this bath. Compared to Istanbul prices it was a bargain, and definitely a more local experience.
