Trip Report - Italy May/June 2012

Just finished our 2 weeks yesterday, here's our feedback on hotels.
Rome - Best Western Hotel Canada, not in Rick's book. Close to Roma Termini station and a subway stop literally around the corner. Very quiet, comfortable room. $151/night for 2 people. Breakfast more like a brunch, amazing! Nice little bar on site for coffee/cocktails. Would stay again for sure. Sorrento -Hilton Sorrento Palace - Used Hilton points. Amazing views, walking distance into town, if you are an elite Hilton Honors member you get access to 7th floor with pool, sundeck, and free food, alcohol, softdrinks from 7am to 11.30pm. This made for a very cheap 3 days! Service impeccable. Bed a bit hard. Sienna - Palazzo Brucchi B and B. Was in Rick's 2009 book, not in 2012. Loved this place. Great location near Il Campo, comfortable bed, lovely view, quiet, access to kitchen where we could make tea, and had use of a fridge, stovetop, etc so we didn't have to eat every meal out. Good breakfast, only 100 Euros/night, less with cash discount, room smallish, no A/C. Would stay again at time of year when A/C not critical. Florence - Hotel Davanzati - fantastic, just as we expected, super location. Venice - La Residenza - our experience here was spotty and we would not stay there again I think. Room was nice, breakfast disappointing, service depended on member of staff you dealt with, got the feeling from one that we were a big inconvenience, whilst another was totally charming and helpful. Annoying that A/c in room was turned off everyday around 6.30am and you had to ask to get it turned on again. Husband swore coffee was instant at breakfast, certainly the tea bag I got for tea was cheap (Lipton's). Good news is there's an awesome coffee shop around the corner, opens at 7am. This was the most expensive place we stayed at, which probably made it all the more disappointing to us. Julia

Julia thanks for the nice reviews. We're leaving in a few days for Rome, Sorrento, Venice then going on Princess cruise. Anyways, we are also using points for our stays. Marriott in Rome and Hilton's. At the Hilton Sorrento did you go on any tours that hotel concierge suggested? If so, which ones and did you like the tour company. We have called hilton and emailed, for company name, but he just said private. We want to do day trip tour Amalfi coast. Thanks and if you have any other tips on the hotel or restaurants that would be great.
