Trip report from Black Forest/Alsace/Paris

Hey there, I promised I'd post a quick update on my last-minute, credit-card-point trip to Paris, Alsace, and the Black Forest. Gengenbach was a lovely place to stay -- you can walk out of town in multiple directions and be hiking in the Black Forest in minutes. I also took a day trip to Freiburg am Breisgau, which was lovely. Note that Google Maps does NOT capture Deutsche Bahn trains well. Use the DB site. Then I moved on to Strasbourg, took a day trip to Colmar, then three nights in Paris, including heading out to Saint Denis to see the basilica. The heat wave made sightseeing during the day a bit tricky, but these were all lovely places to visit. Would particularly recommend the cathedrals in Freiburg and Saint Denis, and the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar.

I'm so glad to hear this. I've been trying to wrap up plans for my trip in October and was looking at info on Freiburg earlier today, trying to decide whether or not it's worth the trip from Strasbourg. I'm going to visit Gengenbach, Colmar and Paris as well. I won't make Saint Denis this time, but just like probably a lot of us here, I'm already thinking about future trips, so maybe I'll get there in the future.

So glad you had a nice trip! All of those places are lovely and well worth going to. Yes, you're right about Google maps but it's good that DB does a pretty good job of showing the train routes.

Colmar is one place I haven't been to, so maybe in the future. Thanks for the report!
