Travel with trains in the Dolomites

In mid September of this year my husband and I are flying into Northern Italy and will eventually get up into Trento. We are planning to spend four nights in Verona and two nights in Trento. From there we have another two weeks to travel in the northern region. On October 10 we will be flying out of the Milan to go back home. At the moment we would like to take trains but could rent a car if need be. Do you have any recommendations for places to see, cities to visit up in that area. Thank you so much for your help9

Trains run in the valleys and you need to take buses to get up into the mountains. Fortunately they have great, highly organized transport network. https://suedtirolmobil.info/en/

Bolzano (Bozen) with worth a visit. Ortisei is an easy bus ride where you can spend a few days. Looks like most of the lifts will be running at least until October 9.

Hi — In the 2019 book “See You in the Piazza” by Frances Mayes (of “Under the Tuscan Sun” fame) she writes about places she and her husband visited in the Dolomite region. Trento, Merano, and Campo Tures…and others I am not recalling right now. Your trip sounds like it will be wonderful — I hope you will post a report when you return! Buon Viaggio!

Are you hikers? Or what do you want to do in the mountains? Will you establish a base camp for some time in one location?
