Travel Planning Programs or Apps

We are planning to travel for about 12 months, leaving Canada in April, 2019. I have been looking for some type of travel planner app or software, as getting our heads around the what, when and how is a bit overwhelming. Has anyone used anything they found wildly useful? I would like to be able to add a lot of notes, move days around, attach maps, etc. Suggestions? Free is good, but I am aware you sometimes get what you pay for.

I'm a fan of TripCase. Used it on a few trips and it suits my purpose well but it is not as robust as Trip It. Another app I like is called Trip Splitter. It's designed to record expenses and then split them between participants. The free version will do this for 2 people but I use it just to easily record my expenses.

I have used TripIt for many years and upgraded to TripIt Pro two years ago.
I like having all of my travel reservations in one easy to access place. You can forward your airline, rental cars and major hotel chains reservations. Small BnBs will have to manually entered. And after your trip is finished, you can find it again under Past Trips. A friend recently asked me which rental car company we used in Spain a few years ago. I brought that reservation up easily with all the details.
I upgraded to TripIt Pro as I was on a free trial for it when we were stuck at a major airport with weather delays during the Christmas holidays. The airline desk agents kept telling us our flight would take off but TripIt Pro found it was canceled, notified us, and by using Booking.com we were able to get one of the few airport hotel rooms left for that night.

Another vote for Tripit. It's the best (at least for me!), so easy to use and a great organizational tool. I know the itinerary part can include maps and notes. Not sure about moving days around without actually "editing" your plans. I've been using it for years.

Nice thing about Tripit is that the planner can make reservations, forward the confirmations to Tripit,
and all members of the party get updated itineraries that they can see offline. With details like complete address, phone numbers, directions.

I use TripIt Pro. It has its quirks, but I have found nothing better for having all of my reservations, notes, etc., all in one place, filed for each trip.

I also like Google Maps and Google Translate. (You can download languages on Google Translate before you leave home.)

Where are you headed on your year long adventure?

We are planning to start in Europe, spending our 90 days in the Shengen, another 90 days in the UK, etc., before going back to the Shengen for about 60 days. Then we will head south along the east side of Africa, India, Tibet, China and home. However nothing is written in stone and our timelines might change quite a bit. Eventually I will probably use TripIt, but it's not that adaptable to early planning when nothing is booked. I'm thinking I'm going to be starting with pen and paper.
