Travel Journals

Im not sure if this is the area I should post this question.
I'm planning a solo trip, 1st one in about 8 years. My question is what kind of travel journals do you have/use.

Thank you in advance. Rose

I use a little pocket sized notebook to jot down details that I want to remember. When I get home, I write a narration from memory, aided by the notebook, maps, etc.

I usually travel with a small leather journal (paperback book size) and try to write it in each night in my hotel room. When I'm sightseeing I carry a tiny little notebook to jot down info I think I may forget before my evening journaling. I do usually have a small netbook computer with me and I know I could do my journaling in a word program but I prefer my hand written journal.

On my last trip I was the most successful keeping my journal up to date. I took a thin 5" X 8" notebook. In the front of the book I used each set of double pages for each day. Travel days had everything I needed to know including ridiculous items to do thinking I'd be brain dead due to jet lag. On non-travel days I indicated possibilities on what to do that day and how, if necessary. All days included what I spent each day. I'd also scribble something I wanted to remember on that double page. The second half of the notebook was my journal, memory aided by the front half and usually written while I sipped on my drink and awaited dinner in a restaurant. Have a great trip. Wray

I use several thin Moleskin like soft cover books; 1 will fit in a plastic ziplock with a pen in my purse. I carry it with me all the time and catch up at cafes or a bench in a garden. I keep notes on what I Do, photos I took, assess what things I brought I Should not bring again as I did not use them. I number the notebooks as I Usually have a few per trip.

I find I get less behind if I carry it with me and make a point to write in it when I sit down during the day. If I leave my writing til th end of the day I get tired and miss a day.

I also have a few small spiral notebooks to write my plans for the next day and eep in a jacket pocket, like addresses of a shop or cafe, metro stop for a site, that kind of thing.

Enjoy your trip.

I like to use my notebook computer in the evening, but I may make notes in a small notebook or on my iPod during the day - when I take a rest or meal break. I tend not to write every day, then use the time on train rides. I also use my camera a lot (or the iPod camera) to take photos to remind me of details - pix of signs, food, menus, people I have conversations with.

I carry a spiral bound note book, a pen, scissors and a glue stick. At the end of the day I write in what I did, thought ,observations etc. Then if I have tickets, maps or post cards I glue them in the next to the written pages. I find that when I go back and read it I get a good picture of the trip. I once made a scrapbook and it took way too much time and work, and recently my pictures have not made it out of the camera. So this serves as a good memory jogger.

Hi,

I keep a log of sorts of my trips, a more detailed one if it is a lengthy (more than 12 days) solo trip, using 3x5 note cards clipped together in date order of the trip, a pocket size spiral note book, buying local post cards, a calendar book, a self made calendar 8.5 x 11 covering my trip from the week prior to departure to ca week after returning. Yes, there is sometimes duplication, but better that than a total omission of the info.

I take a small spiral bound notebook with 100 sheets for an 89-day trip. Each day gets a sheet, info on the front and list of photos on the back. Contact info can go in the remaining pages. I make brief notes on the front page during the day.

For journaling, I use the Pages app on my iPad mini, which I take with me and use during the day, and try to catch up at night.

I carry a small Moleskine by day to jot notes. I use a small folding keyboard with a Nexus 7 tablet or my iPhone to do most of the journaling in Evernote. Used train time to catch up, though it was hard to focus on the TGV from Turin to Paris--kept soaking in the scenery.

I also use a Netbook computer to record the day-by-day details of my travels using a Word document. I can type much faster than I can write, so that's the quickest method for me to use. That also provides an easy method of transferring parts of the document to a Blog or E-mails.

what I have started to do is to do little video reports using my iPad or mobile phone for friends and family on Facebook.I am know for my love of beer and pubs well away from the main tourist tracks and all my family love seeing this sort of thing .I also take notes in a small note book and write up a small report on my iPad usually the next morning, once I am home I write it all up into a report and file on my computer as well as keeping a back up copy.
