I need insurance for a tour this summer. What is the best way to get insured? Is it best thru credit cards and which credit card for Europe mostly France and Italy. Or should I get insurance thru an agency like nomads? VISA Odessey offers $ 5 million for medical, 1000$ for luggage. Thank you in advance.
The first question -- what kind of insurance ? -- medical??, trip interruption??, evacuation?
I've never gotten any form of travel insurance, but I've seen many people recommend this site to compare the different types of travel insurance available: https://www.insuremytrip.com/
As already recommended InsureMyTrip.com is a good place to compare different plans. Very user friendly site.
If you only want medical and evacuation insurance, not trip cancellation, this Blue Cross subsidiary has good options. I found it based on a recommendation on this forum.

The site that has been mentioned will allow you to compare all the "ifs, ands, and buts" of various policies. Just be sure to check the fine print. The details are the area that gives rise to most disagreements between insurers and the insured. One size does not fit all so you are going to have to "tailor' one to fit your particular needs.
In addition, most travel policies have medical evacuation coverage. But they USUALLY will only evacuate you to the nearest hospital than can treat you. There is a company named "Med Jet Assist" that has a number of different membership plans from annually to short term. It is NOT medical insurance -- just med evacuation coverage. As long as you are more than 150 miles from home, they will, if medically necessary, fly you back to your home hospital in a medical jet with medical personnel. Google them and see what you think,
We had one claim with Travel Guard. They did require certain documentation but nothing that was unreasonable. If memory serves correctly we had a check in less than two weeks after submitting our claim.
And once again, be sure to check the details of any policy.
