Transylvania Guide

We had a great personal guide for a trip to the Transylvania region in Romania. His name is Mihai Nicolae and he gave us two jam packed days. He was always attentive to what interested us in addition to the things he had planned. Romania is an untapped treasure for visitors and the value of your local currency goes a long way here. Many people speak good English so the language barrier should not scare you away!

If you could, please share how you found him...(and I'd love to read your entire trip report of Romania). I've been planning on going for the past two years and unfortunately, plans changed. I agree that Romania is very underrated, but I would not expect the elderly in small rural areas like Maramures to speak English - but that would not keep me away. The rustic charms look absolutely lovely. I think my biggest impediment is with food - I am largely vegetarian and I know Romanian food is very meaty.
