I like hitting the Amsterdam side alleys and eating their soft serve ice cream cones that taste like straight cream. And the cones of fried potatoes with mayonnaise.

We also enjoy eating in Indonesian Ristoffels where they just keep bringing small dishes out. And the Argentine steakhouses are also great.

Been awhile since we were in Amsterdam, and we're about due another visit.

We used to stay out in Amsterdam Sud in a bed and breakfast. But most B&B owners in the are converted into condos and walked away with a bunch of $$$. Rooms are now more difficult to find and more expensive.

What a great trip report, Peg! Thanks so much. Succinct and informative, I love your grading system. Can I ask how the crowds were in the art museums? And I’m guessing you had those booked well in advance?

Lyndash - I’m glad you enjoyed my trip report! The crowds weren’t bad at the museums. Mornings are great! We went to the Rijksmuseum at 9:00 and then to the Van Gogh at 11:30. There was a little more of a crowd later in the morning, but the timed entries really help. I bought our tickets about 5 weeks in advance because I wanted specific times. The Anne Frank house was also not overly crowded either thanks to timed entry. Those tickets you need to get 6 weeks in advance on a Tuesday. I had to purchase them in the middle of the night our time as they are released at 10am Europe time and sell out within minutes. It was worth it though.

Sounds like a nice trip! Glad you were able to go out with Jack! The Pantry was so good the night we were there. If we went earlier in the trip, we would have returned and Gartine's we adored as well.

Terrific trip report. Great format and very informative. Thank you.

Did you book your museum times, restaurant reservations and canal cruise before you arrived in Amsterdam?

We will be visiting in mid-October.

Thank you.

Great report as well!! Gives me hope we can do our main three sites with our limited time…1 to 2 full days! Our 2 nights are at Brooks Guesthouse. On our first day post travel night…we arrive 8:30 am….and hope to wander either the Van Gogh museum or possibly Anne Frank House. We know we need to reserve tickets for both…5 wks and 6 wks ahead. Our nxt day….we do have a late morning reservation at Corrie Ten Boom house in Haarlem. We will later that day tour one of the prior mentioned sites. We visited the Rijksmuseum 20 years ago…loved it but prioritize the others first we have not yet seen. This is in mid August this summer.
You managed to do alot in your 3 days Peg! Great job! Exciting! We sure hope this itinerary works for us!

Lynne -- Yes, we booked all restaurants (except Cafe T'Smal & t Blauwe Theehuis), both cruises and all museums in advance and were glad we did. Museums had signs that they were sold out the days we were there, and people without reservations were getting turned away at all of the restaurants.
