I’m retiring at the end of this year and am contemplating moving to Ireland for a couple of years. Finances won’t really be an issue. Does anyone have experiences to share?

With all the recent inquiries about living abroad in other countries, maybe the Webmaster can create a category labeled "Ex-Pats."
In this way, thoughts, opinions, useful links, helpful hints from those living abroad currently or who have lived abroad for awhile can be 'organized' so to speak. .
Since the RS forum is aimed at travelers to Europe (and occasionally elsewhere), it's not really geared toward those wanting to move to Europe. It's possible that there is a US ex-pat living in Ireland on this forum who may chime in to help you. But, in the meantime, I would suggest you check into those online guides for moving to Ireland, google is your friend. Here is one you can start with. Or this one. Also try the US Embassy in Ireland's website. There's lots of info out there.
You should contact the Irish Embassy, they would be only one to give you up to date correct information.
And the question is really in the wrong section. This is the section for Trip Reports.

Ditto. Also, do a search of the forums this subject has come up multiple times in several different areas.
There are numerous websites and blog sites for ex pats and those of us considering a move to UK or Ireland.
Agree, this might not be the best Community for that purpose.
Eileen, apologies if you have got this covered, but I have seen too many posts from people wanting to move to other countries who have naively been ignorant of this issue:
What is your nationality (citizenship)?
If you are not a citizen of an EU country, you will need permission, normally called a residence visa, to live in Ireland. You need to enquire now, at your nearest Irish consulate or Embassy, about how to get one of these, requirements and if it is even possible.
Very few countries in this world allow immigration without restrictions.
Some day after I retire from full time work I'd love to rent a place overseas for a few months.
I googled "living in Ireland as a retiree" and came up with multiple responses.
I'd start there.
