We stayed two nights at the Pestana Porto on the Ribeira ($186.00/nite) on their pre-paid Golden Age schedule and this included breakfast. Outstanding hotel (our room had a river view) and location. Two dining recommendations: for lunch try the Postigo do Carvao located behind the Pestana Porto on Rua da Fonte Taurina. For dinner we would recommend Adega De Sao Nicolau. Both recommendations came from natives and they are worthy of passing on. This location is right on the Douro and gives you great access for the river tours, the port tours, and the tour bus area. This was a real treat to be at a World Heritage site and everything was reasonably priced. Keep the car parked and use their transportation system.
