Staying at apartments in italy

We are traveling to Bologna this summer. It's an apartment we are renting. The travel agent booked it through Expedia agent site. We were told to contact them 72 hours before arrival. I contacted them early to make sure this was correct into given to us. I was told that they would need pictures of our passport and they will send a link for us to pay the tax and cleaning fee. Per the Expedia site it does say that there will be a tax and cleaning fee that will need to be paid.

Does it seem correct to send all of this 72 hour before check in? None of our other apartments we rented in other towns/cities are requiring this.

It’s quite common for some apartments— particularly apartments using keypad codes when no one actually meets you upon checking in— to request passport info and deposits prior to your arrival.
