Stay in Provence

We stayed in the most wonderful B&B in Vaison la Romaine. We initially tried to get a room at one of Ricks recommendations but since we did not have a reservation, we knew there wasn't much of a chance. We were right but the proprietor was insistent on finding us a room. He phoned some friends and they were able to accommodate us. Luck was certainly with us that day. This place has 3 rooms and was built in the 90s. The gardens and pool are lovely and the house was warm and comfortable and very tastefully furnished. Our room had its own entrance and the parking was right out the door. It had everything one could hope for.

Beatrice and Jim are the owners and when we arrived, Beatrice hugged me and that was the start of a wonderful 3 days (we only planned to stay 2). We arrived around lunchtime and they asked if we would join them for a light meal. They treated us like family and planned each day for us. We went to several medieval hill towns, strolled through a huge weekly market and ate dinner at places they recommended. Jim took us to a friends winery for a private wine tasting. Jim and Beatrice taught us a lot about French history and their wines. Beatrice even did some laundry for us. The breakfasts consisted of different French breads, croissants, cheeses, fruit and eggs.

The town is conveniently located not far from Orange. It was also the least expensive place we stayed on our entire 3 week trip. We would give it 5 stars out of 5 in every category.
