We took a day trip to Cosenza from Pizzo to explore my husband’s family’s roots. We were fortunate to have a group called My Italian Family help us find a 3rd cousin who could show us the family history AND the historic part of the town since he manages the upkeep for Teatro Rendano, a beautiful working theatre that hosts everything from local school dance performances to world-renowned opera to rock concerts. In addition to it being beautifully appointed, the history of the building and the square on which it stands with the county seat and the community library complete with restored manuscripts and philosopher’s original tomes are a wonderful site.
Cosenza is a vibrant city with a university and the heart of Calabrian industry, but much to show for its emphasis on art and history as well.
