Southampton UK - plenty to do there for an afternoon or day

Stayed afternoon & overnight July 2015 before a cruise. The walls, pleasant pubs, history in St. Michaels Church & Holy Rood Church WWII memorial, Tudor House & Garden, shopping along the main street comparable to any European shopping area, large indoor mall - all worth an afternoon and evening. Memorable dinner at Everest Nepalese restaurant. Enjoy Southampton.

If you are a Titanic buff, the SeaCity Museum is a great way to kill a few hours. We visited it in 2012 and spent a few hours there

This is interesting to me because I will be in Southampton tomorrow for a few days. As well as the suggestions offered above, we will probably take the ferry to the Isle of Wight for a day, and we have already booked a tour of the New Forest. Our dollar totally stinks vs the GBP so we must carefully manage what we do and where we eat ( and drink) so as to stay solvent.
