We went to the National Gallery in Prague specifically to see the Rick Steves highly recommened Slav Epic by the artist Alfons Mucha but it is no longer there. It closed December 2016 and will reopen in 2018 at a downtown location.
Thanks for the update. That art has moved a number of times in the last few years. Hope they find a permanent home for it.
Yes, I believe it's on tour in Asia. Too bad you missed it !
It is indeed in Japan and it will be in China. So that's where you can see it.
A shame because it's really incredible.
Hopefully a permanent home because Veletrizni Palace was kind of inconvenient.
Just back from Prague last night, we too were sad to discover this (two days ago). Even worse, we got lost for quite a while trying to find the place described in Rick's Prague book (the directions confused us), it took us a long time to get there and then when we finally got there and asked to buy tickets we were told it's no longer on display. D'oh!!! We went to the Mucha Museum as a consolation prize.
A serendipitous moment came recently in Madrid. I learned that there was a Mucha exhibit on and made the time to see it. I felt they had displayed the Slav Epic well by taking a still shot of each of the 40 key historial events, and running close up video of the area to see the detail of each of these segments. One didn't get the overall effect of the size of it all, but I think I was able to see more of each section by not being overwhelmed by its entirety. It was sponsored by the Mucha Foundation, so they may have a schedule of cities of future exhibits.
How interesting. Thank you for telling me about it. I hope to see it sometime.
