The Sesto Dolomites are an undiscovered Unesco Heritage area. Very few English speaking visitors even though it is only 2,30 hours from Venice and 30 minutes from Cortina. San Candido is a beautiful mountain town easily reached by car or train and only 10 minutes from the Austrian border. The area is surrounded by magnificent mountains and emerald green fields in summer. Offering perfectly kept hiking routes for all levels and is a mountain bikers heaven. In winter it is a renowned ski area and has 250km of cross-country ski slopes. As now it is mainly an Italian tourist area it is really busy in August and December, but the months of June and September and even October are perfect. The fields are a carpet of flowers in May and June and you can walk for hours in utter awe of your surroundings.
The Three Peaks of Lavaredo are an imposing sight and offer many spectacular hikes. This area was also a very important war zone during the First World War and many relics still remain.
