Just returned from a wonderful week in Paris. Decided to stay this time in a studio apartment located in the Marais district a block from the St. Paul metro stop and a 15 minute stroll across the Seine to Notre Dam. Absolutely wonderful and highly recommend this if you're tired of staying in a hotel. Saw Versailles from the seat of a bicyle. A very refreshing way to see this major tourist sight as Versailles is really all about the grounds and waterways. The bikes were ready for us as we got off the train in Versailles, we rode through the town to the market to buy the makings for our picnic lunch..cheese, quiche, fresh bread and vin rouge. Our guides Ian and David were fantastic and we cycled through the tree covered laneways and had our picnic by the Grand Canal before braving the tourist hordes inside Versailles..must-see if the Hall of Mirrors but with so many tourists we barely lasted an hour. Note that the fountains are only on the weekends and special occasions so if you want to see these, pick a weekend to go. Didn't want to name companies here, but the two I used for the above were absolute gems!! tip...don't buy any metro tickets from guys holding packs of tickets. They stand by the ticket dispensers and catch confused tourists..these are "used" tickets out of the trash and they don't work! Saw several people caught by this scam.
I don't see why you shouldn't name the tour companies. Go ahead if you think others will enjoy going on their tours. This isn't forbidden on here, people do it all the time. You can also post info about them on the Graffiti Wall as well as the Guidebook Feedback, where it is requested to post such information. The tour sounds like fun and interesting.
Okay, so I'll name drop two fabulous finds from our week in Paris...Vacation in Paris based in Newton New Jersey, USA for our wonderful studio apartment rental. The best bike tour of Versailles was with Bike About Tours. Happy travels all!!!
Of course post the names! It helps other tourists to filter out the good and the bad based on your experiences. That's what information sharing is all about.
Glad you had a great time, and yes, name ping is encouraged here, thats what forums are for, helping others out with personal opinions, reviews, and specifics!
