Santa Maria del Popolo

We were in Rome last year, and Santa Maria del Popolo was under construction and we could not enter! We are traveling to Rome again soon, and wondered if Santa Maria del Popolo is now open for tourists. If open, are there any suggestions on the best timing/least amount of tourists?
Thanks!

Here is the tourism website:

http://www.smariadelpopolo.com/en/

I'd just go whenever the church is open to visitors Mon. - Sat. and not on Sunday, due to heavy mass schedule. Hours are a bit sketchy but they give the mass schedule (no visiting) on one site as:

http://www.santamariadelpopolo.it/it/?page_id=1554
Sunday and Holy Days: ore 8-10-11-12-13-18,30
Monday - Sat: 8-10-18,30

I'm guessing mass hours should also be posted outside the church or just inside the door (can't remember from when we were there).

Otherwise, hours on the tourism website are listed as (masses aside):
Weekdays 7.30 - 12.00 / 16.00 - 19.00
Saturday 7.30am-7.00pm
Holidays 7:30 am - 1:30 pm / 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

WELCOME DESK TIMETABLE
Mon-Fri from 10.30 to 12; from 16:00 to 17.30
Saturday from 10.30 to 13.30; from 14.30 to 17.30
Sunday: service closed

The facebook page lists hours (masses aside) as:
https://www.facebook.com/basilicasantamariadelpopolo/
Hours 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM, 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Clear as mud? :O)
Bring some euro coins needed to illuminate the Caravaggios.

You're welcome! It's a really interesting church so I hope you get inside this time!

We went to Rome this past September, and it was open.

IIRC their services include a guitarist accompaniment so consider attending a service - I haven't seen that elsewhere in Rome.
The side altars along the left when facing in are especially captivating.

Was it really closed? I can't imagine this major church being closed entirely. Maybe they are trying to keep tourists out and only allowing worshippers in?

It was totally closed. I am not sure if they still had services, but definitely closed for some construction.
