I will be in Ireland in February. Any recommendations for abbey and castle ruins? I will have a car so the more off the beaten path, the better!

During our road trip around the southern half of Ireland 5-6 years ago, we visited many Celtic ring forts and medieval Tower Houses, both ruins and rebuilt. Sorry no specifics, but they seemed to be no shortage of them and many were in out of the way spots. Maybe a web search? I remember asking a local for directions to a Tower House along the coast as there we no signs to it. He actually lead us there. It was a ruine and you were advised to stay clear of the place, as it could come down at anytime. We had a prepared travel guide at the time that included many of these sights. We had purchased a package that included the rental car, B&B with tailored travel guide book for 12 days. We drove the car to places no bus tour goes, or in some cases could not go due to the size and conditions of the road. Take a Navi!
