Rome-Sorrento-Paris, Part 4 (Naples & Pompei)

Naples-Sorrento – 3 days: Rome to Naples by fast train (1.10 minutes) – booked ahead @ Mini Fare of 19E. I had originally planned on taking a ferry upon arrival in Naples to Sorrento, but found I just wanted to hop a bus and not have to worry about getting to the ferry from the train station. I caught the Curreri bus from Napoli Centrale to the center of Sorrento at an affordable 10E. It was a long hot walk through Sorrento to my hostel (Ulisse Deluxe Hostel), near the Marina Grande. Very nice place – hotel really; there were only a few rooms that were what I would call hostel rooms. That evening I checked out Marina Grande with all the fisherman pulling & repairing nets. I enjoyed a lovely meal at a communal table @ Da Emelia Family restaurant; just a wonderful welcome to Sorrento (marinated fresh anchovies for an appetizer and linguini con Cozze (mussels) for my primi). A friendly retired couple from Montreal, Canada shared their table with me and we had a perfectly sublime meal together trading our travel stories. Day 1: Naples & Pompei: Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples (used Campania Artcard) to visit Archeological Museum. Great to see the actual items from Pompei & Ercolano at the museum and later to picture them being used in the homes at Pompei. Picked up a margarita pizza just across the museum from a street vendor – oh so chewy and gooey. Yummy. The afternoon in Pompei was very pleasant as the hoard of group tours had died down and the weather was cooling off. I especially liked seeing the bakery and the "fast food joints;" missed out on the brothel, as I never found it. The "secret room" at the Arch. Museum made up for the loss. Pompei was serenely quiet with Vesuvius as a backdrop.
