We love Hotel Lancelot on via Capo d'Africa. Recommended in the Rick Steves Rome Guidebook, this is a small hotel in a quiet neighborhood a 5 minute walk from the Colosseum. They serve a great breakfast and the staff is very accommodating. They
set us up with airport transfers from Michsride (www.michsride.com) and we arranged with Michael of Michs for a night tour of Rome which was a highlight of the trip.
We followed restaurant recommendations from the guidebook and found Naumachia on Via Celimontana and Trattoria Pizzeria Luzzi (next door; address is via di San Giovanni). The hotel recommended Il Bocconcino on Via Ostilia. This is a real find--they emphasize recipes from Rome's long-established Jewish community. All these restaurants were within easy walking distance from the hotel with good food reasonably priced. All were open all day--a boon to anyone seeking an early dinner.
