Romania Guide George Trandafir of Touring Romania - highly recommend!

Review for Touring Romania – George Trandafir Sept 28-Oct 9, 2025
Adventures with Sarah's Tour of Romania used the excellent Romanian guide, George, a charming favorite son of everyone we met. It seemed he knew everyone. By the way, I am writing a more in depth trip report and hope to post it soon!
George is an exceptional guide who is knowledgeable and passionate about his country. Our small group enjoyed the home cooked meals in people’s homes in the rural, travel back in time Maramureş. We had cooking classes taught by a local woman, visited the village photographer who chronicles life in the tiny village of Breb, went on a horse-drawn cart ride through the village. We stayed in restored painted cottages that were rescued by a British woman who bought the property and now rents out the charming cottages. We toured beautiful painted wooden churches, 800+ years old monasteries with gorgeous frescoes, the unique Merry Cemetery and Sigishoara, Vlad III Dracul’s birthplace, 1431-1435. Brasov is an interesting Saxon town with the Black Cathedral and ended our tour in Bucharest. I learned so much from George and this knowledge enhanced my tour!

Also, AdventureswithSarah.net has a Romania tour April 9-20, 2026. You will be in Maramureş during Orthodox Easter when the traditional celebrations occur! It will be a wonderful time to be there!

Good evening Judy,
My wife and I are planning a trip to Romania in 2027 after having taken a Viking cruise down the Danube to Bucharest. I have happened upon George through searching the internet, and I would like to get your opinion on a 2 week tour with him to get into the slower side of Romania and really see how the locals live and to immerse into their culture. Do you care to respond and give me an idea of your thoughts about George, what you think about a tour with him, and the safety and security of such a trip? I would appreciate your thoughts very much,
Thank you, Jeff Masters

Jeff,
Yes, I would recommend George for a slow tour of Romania. He’s a native and knowledgeable and interesting. Also, I felt very safe and secure on my 2 weeks in Romania. It’s a fascinating place and I enjoyed the people and their traditional culture very much, especially in the more rural areas.
