Report: I filed a medical claim with Allianz and here is how it worked out!

For the first time ever - I used my travel insurance!!!

It was a minor claim - Urgent Care and medicine in Spain. Total was about $175.

I filed the claim on the Allianz app on Sunday night. It was super easy. I answered about 3 questions and attached pictures of my receipts.

The claim was approved on Monday.

The money is already in my account today - Tuesday!

Well, I'm sorry you got hurt, Valerie, but I'm glad everything was so easy and was approved so quickly. That's got to be a good feeling! It's always good when it works!

Thanks for the report! We need to file a claim with Allianz. I'm glad to know how quick and easy it was.

That is reassuring since I use Allianz as well (and thankfully no use yet).
I read on your blog about the emergency and hope no follow-up was needed when back home.

Well, sorry you needed it but glad to know it was as easy as mine. I filed for a hotel room because of a cancelled flight last year and had just about the same timeline.

Happily, no follow up was needed! But it sure was encouraging to see how quickly a claim could be processed:)

Glad this worked out, I’ve had good experiences with Allianz too.

Do you all have annual plans with Allianz, or do you get insurance for each trip?

For the Allianz annual policy I wanted, the maximum trip length was 45 days and my trip was longer than that, so I bought a policy just for that trip.

Mine is annual to cover 2 trips a year. For our daughter we just bought a one trip policy.

Our son’s senior trip to Cabo Mexico was during COVID; reservations made in October 2020 with the trip in April 2021. The travel agent told everyone that she always recommended travel insurance, but never pushed for it. However, with COVID, she was pretty emphatic that everyone purchase CFAR insurance (through Allianz) as there were simply too many unknowns.

Well, the trip went well - no one tested positive, no incidents etc. but about 15 of us were stuck in Dallas overnight on the way home (there were about 80 people total traveling in all, spread over 3 different flights). When we arrived home all of us filed claims and our dinner, airport hotel and breakfast the next morning, were all paid promptly by Allianz.

We had a similar experience with Allianz and it all worked out fine!

Someone sent me a private message that I think would be helpful posted here. In my brief claim question list, Allianz asked me if I had health insurance and did I submit the claim there first.

I do have health insurance and so I answered yes. I then answered that I did NOT submit the claim to my health insurance.

The policy I buy from Allianz is a PRIMARY policy - I don’t need to submit to my health insurer. (Compare to a SECONDARY policy, which requires you to submit the bill to your health insurer first.)

I specifically buy a primary policy. I don’t know what would happen with those claim questions if it was a secondary policy.

NWValerie - that's good to know! But I don't recall picking primary vs secondary on my last policy. I think mine was OneTrip Prime. I'll pay closer attention next time I get a new policy.

I am glad it worked so smoothly. That is definitely not what one usually hears (I don't mean about Allianz in particular, I mean with claims in general.) it's nice to hear two good stories here in this thread.

I have a year-round policy with Allianz for my trips back to the States (trip length limit is 60 days - that is what they offer here), but have not had to use it (knock on wood).
