I rented a car, 20 days, from Madrid Barajas airport for a 20 day driving trip through Spain, Portugal. Received the car I rented and had no issues at pickup/-off. Car rented was delivered/pick-up at the Hertz/Thrifty counter. Price was about $100/rental period than any other online (Sixt, AARP, AAA, Priceline, Orbitz). Rentalcars.com owned by Priceline. If you're comfortable with driving manual/stick then you'll save over having an automatic. The car we rented was a manual, diesel. Estimated that we saved some $$ over having an automatic/gas vehicle. *Note: may of the smaller towns, we drove in, had very narrow streets, steep hills. When driving stick, and not too comfortable having another car on your bumper, as you try to start from a dead stop and heading up a hill...put your flashers on and the car behind you will stay back. This way you don't roll back into another vehicle.
*Note: in hindsight - I should have purchased a learners tag "L" to hand in the back window. Most cars stayed back from those vehicles.
