I'm currently in Reims and want to update travelers if you are planning to visit. The Palace du Tau, next door to the Cathedral of Reims; the Gallo Roman cryptoporticus; and the Museum of Surrender are all closed for renovations. What is open and not mentioned in the Rick Steves guide book are: St Remi Basilica and adjacent Museum. The church is a Romanesque and Gothic mix, south of the Cathedral with an impressive history that predates it by 2 centuries. The Saint Remi Museum occupies a former Benedictine abbey with art, objects and tapestries from prehistoric to Renaissance times. A place you can spend hours in. The champagne house of Pommery was a great treat. Reservations are not required, unlike all the rest, and a self guided tour of the caves, museum, and one champagne tasting can all be had for 27 euro per person. Enjoy!
