Premier Inn London. Partial Review and First TR

I arrived this morning really exhausted. Flight went very well but food was so bad that could eat almost nothing

Had very little difficulty finding the Premier Inn Victoria. Staff signed me in two hours early free and did all the necessary paperwork for me.

I am having bad problems with my technology both iPad and iPhone so I am not going to write much.

Have mixed feelings about this hotel but that might change after a couple of days so I do not want to write much yet

I am writing this in the lobby because the wi fi is so bad in my room. That is one of the issues I am having with this hotel.

Another problem is 9 stairs to get into the hotel. They are steep it was difficult to get up them with my luggage. And because of the rain, the stairs are slippery. I walk up and down very carefully.

There is a decent lobby with a bar but it looks run down. Yet they had business off and on all day

One time there was a large group of women seeming to have a good time.

The hotel needs some refurbishing. My room needs refurbishing. The rug is stained I think from age. It looks old.

The bed is so high that I am having trouble getting on it I have to pull myself up I actually need a stool but there isn’t one

I have not had my first breakfast yet and will write an updated review in a few more days.

After eating and a good nap, I went back to Victoria Coach Station so as to find a place to meet my friend who is coming in tomorrow from Hinckley.

Then I walked along Buckingham Palace Road. To Victoria Station I made a few discoveries.

There are wonderful places to eat everywhere. I had some wonderful Thai food today The area is quaint and pretty but there are issues. A homeless mentally ill man just walked right in. I was the only one in the area and I had to call for help. Earlier another person acted inappropriately in front of me and there was a homeless man sleeping in the doorway of a building. Just noting this for anyone considering this hotel.

My technology continues to be a problem so I am going to post as is.

Want to add that staff is super nice and helpful.

Welcome to London! Glad you have arrived here safely and found everything ok. Sorry to hear the hotel is a bit run-down but hopefully you will be out most of the day anyway! If you tell them the bed is too high they may be able to help- I would ask them.

Unfortunately rough sleeping has become more and more common in London over the years- it's not limited to the area around Victoria station. It is a sad consequence of the continued fraying of our social safety net.

Good luck with everything and let us know if you need help.

I wish I had known you were staying there, Phil - I would have warned you against it. I stayed at that Premier Inn three years ago. I thought there was a stairlift to the left of the entrance for people who struggled going up and down stairs. The location was great, near Victoria Station, and I was thrilled at my first sight of Buckingham Palace. The room needed an update, was stuffy and the window couldn’t be opened (A/C had been turned off for the season) but the staff found a fan for our room. The breakfast was below average. Don’t remember any WiFi issues. Honestly, I wouldn’t stay there again but heck, I was in London for the first time so made the best of it since the price was right. I’m sure you’ll have a good time despite the hotel.

Hi there, I'm so sorry about the worn nature of that Premier Inn, but happy to hear they signed you in 2 hours early and did your paperwork! Sounds like that part worked out better than you had expected. Yes, do tell them about the bed, I would want another room as a step in the middle of the night could be a hazardous idea. I hope after a good nights sleep you have a great day!

I recommend Grumbles in the general area if you are looking for a good place to eat. I love their fish pie. Also, I would agree that the Victoria Station PI is my least favorite one I've ever stayed in, although my room wasn't as bad as the one you describe. My main problem was one of the elevators wasn't working & they didn't tell me I could only take the one operating to the floor below mine & then walk up a REALLY high set of stairs dragging my bag.

You could ask the hotel if they have an accessible room available. These rooms generally have lower beds and bathrooms with safety rails.

Thank you everyone for responding.

I am so busy right now that I cano not respond back individually.

My friend came in from Hinckley and I helped her get booked into her guest house.

There is a very good supermarket near me and we bought food there. All I can remember is that the name of the supermarket begins with a S and is a large chain my friend told me

While waiting for my friend, I explored Victoria Train Station and Victoria Place before meeting her at Victoria Coach Station

The weather remains horrible. high of 53. Besides cold very windy and rainy

We are hoping to get to the British Museum tomorrow

The weather puts a damper on our plans. That is sort of a pun.

You've been unlucky with the weather bostonphil. Today was the first properly wet day we've had for months.

The supermarket was probably a Sainsbury's.
Regarding the weather, tomorrow is looking dry but Friday and Saturday are looking wet and horrible so you might want to plan accordingly

Sorry about the bad weather, we are set to get some impact from Storm Austen: https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/articles/c6m24ln2j43go

It's not passing over London itself but close enough to cause a lot of rain. It looks like today and Sunday will be nice, however.

Yes, the supermarket you went to would definitley be a Sainsbury's, it's one of our biggest chains.

Good luck with the British Museum today- it's a weekday so shouldn't be quite so crowded.

Today was nice but it looks like most of the rest of my vacation is going to be wet

My umbrella has been damaged from yesterday morning but I think still usable. I have a large London Fog trench coat.

I hope for at least one other nice day.

The British Museum was packed. It is a school break for kids and there were field trips to the British Museum. and then there were crowds because of the Bayeux Tapestry. I just posted a TR report about my visit to the British Museum.

My friend and I have made plans to go to the Royal Academy of Arts tomorrow assuming that it does not have to close because of the weather

I love the Royal Society.
If you are looking for somewhere else to shelter in the area, Waterstones book shop is just down the road near Piccadilly Circus. You can waste hours in there.
