We stayed outside of Florence with our adult children their spouses and our grandchildren( early to late teens)for a week to celebrate our anniversary. It was a very successful trip. They could run around, swim, walk to the village. We spent one full day in Florence ,visiting museums, shopping, eating which the kids loved and otherwise toured Tuscany from our villa in Panzano. It was in late June.

You probably should have this question posted in the Italy section....

Unless you want to pay through the nose for a whole floor at a hotel, you're best to consider renting a villa or two outside of town. Check AirBnB, TripAdvisor, Home Away, VRBO, or an agritourismo for housing options. May in Tuscany, with kids, you'll want a pool, which many of them have. I'm sure each family will have a car rental.

What to visit?...if you've never been, pick-up RS book and start there. Click here would also be a good place to start.

As the grandparent, don't worry about the grandkids, they have parents for that. This is your birthday, having everyone together in a great place and setting is the only thing on your mind. If anything pick one or, two things you want to do, and let your family entertain you.

We rented our villa from Chianti and More. They also list apartments in Florence for rent. Excellent service.
