Day 14
Was Sunday. Original plan was to go to Murren, then walk to Gimmelwald. Had a late start, so decided instead to go to Trummelbach Falls. Enjoyed the walk through Lautterbrunen, about an hour. Lots of cows, passed a farm fridge and and an honesty shop.so worth visiting the falls. I have heard many say to save for a bad weather day, but the walk there was beautiful and only inside the falls about an hour. Corn dogs at a pop up stand in Lauterbrunnen-Betsy’s corn dogs. So good. Bought a couple swatches eyed some cowbells and cuckoo clocks. Bought pb, jelly and bread at COOP to save a little cash. Where have Paprika chips been my whole life???
Day 15
Got out by 9 am to beat the crowds. Visited Murren, bought more souvenirs (too many cute things). Took walk down to Gimmelwald, heard a clatter that had to be cow bells…sure enough were being brought to higher ground for the summer. Took a Great video. We were right on the path. So fun! Went to Lauterbrunnen for a nice burger lunch. Everyone so friendly and great English. More creamy homemade gelato. Back to hotel by 4 pm to relax and chill on the balcony with the amazing views of the Alps. We had done lots of walking so our legs heading a breather.
Day 16
Traveled to Trubschacken to visit with family. Researched my wife’s family who comes from that region and found a tie. They were super gracious. Made us a lovely meal with local meats, cheeses. Brought out a family crest, family tree laid across table. Toured the Kambly Biscuit factory. Wonderful day that wasn’t part of initial plan. Regrouping in the evening on our balcony and witnessed another cow procession. How lucky are we?
Day 17. Walked down from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen for gelato and fries (I know, I know… u they were really good burgers at a little diner near the train stop and awesome fries). Paid about 38.00 CHF to share a burger and fries and one coke, but that is to be expected. The hike down Was harder than we anticipated and the knees felt it, but beautiful views along the way. Found Italian restaurant-very good (Da Vita) up the hill and off the main stretch but best pizza we had in the BO. Watched the Eiger, Munch and Jungfrau from the balcony. I asked the hotel owner if there were any cancellations because I would have canceled Lucerne to stay. I want to just hang out in Wengen for the rest of my days. Alas, it was a no. I had booked 11 months prior, but I was hopeful. :)
Day 18. Took golden pass in the morning to Lucerne. Sit on the left side when you do. Took lots more pics and listened to some chill music bc a very loud chatty family sat behind me. Enjoyed the quiet beauty of the ride while my wife crocheted. On train ride, we realized my wife left her medicine back in Wengen at the hotel. So I checked us in to Hotel Central Luzern and we had lunch. I then went on a solo journey to retrieve it while she replaced at the hotel. So I got to experience the Golden Pass 3x! Lol. Sure beat being stuck in traffic elsewhere! The Swiss Travel Pass (Thanks, Carrie) was awesome. It was so nice boarding any train, bus or boat whenever we wanted. The SBB app is fantastic. Pairing that with Google Maps and Wanderlog, I was super efficient with my time and felt confidant wherever I was. In the evening, we took it easy in the room and got dinner at the train station, super close by. Found some chocolate in the station and ate more than our fill of Laderach. So delicious!!!
