Part 1-Germany, Austria and Switzerland for 3 weeks. Trip of a Lifetime!

Please ignore my capitalization errors as I composed some scattered thoughts every day and will likely make numerous mistakes as I form complete sentences for the purposes of this forum.

Day 1 and 2 traveled. 25 hours. Exhausting but saved lots of money. 800.00 each RT. Arrived into Munich at 830 pm and it was raining quite a bit. I heard reports that the whole region has been wet and soggy for the last couple weeks but should be turning. Maybe our timing will be perfect? We were too tired to use public transportation and forked over a few extra euros to catch a Taxi to our hotel. We stayed at the Hilton Munich City Center. They were super welcoming, spoke perfect English (a theme which carried through our whole trip). We ordered dinner through Uber eats and slept hard!

Day 3-up and at em! At the suggestion of other forum members we decided to try to fight jet lag by an activity right away and to catch some sun light. Was great advice and didn’t suffer much from jet lag the whole trip. Exhaustion from hiking and other activities, yes…but not jet lag. We enjoyed an Awesome breakfast at the Hilton. I don’t know what they did but there was Magic cheese in their scrambled eggs and they had incredible croissants and juice! We fell in love with the vitamin drink you can get as an alternative to OJ. Delicious and we told ourselves it was healthy. The helpful concierge guided us with subway and train info and we Bought tickets there too. Alun through Trip Advisor conducted a small guided tour of Dachau. Highly recommended! He is from London, very knowledgeable, had a solid grasp on history and provided excellent insights. Great tour! Powerful and poignant. Then we were off to the Marianplatz, shopping, caught the glockenspiel at 5. You can view at 11, 12 and 5. A large crowd gathered around and were disappointed at first as only music played. Then it came to life with jousting and all kinds of mechanical fun. The crowd erupted! We Loved the Alstadt. Super fun vibe there of old and new coming together, Dinner at Hoffbrauhaus was great including the Oompah band. Many diners would jump in on some of the folk songs which was more entertaining than the band themselves. The Food was ok, but we came for the experience. However, if you spot the pretzel lady-get a pretzel! They are huge, soft, delicious and cash only. Then, we followed our own rule whenever we go to Rurope, we strive to have gelato at least once daily. Mission accomplished!

Day 4 Started off the day with some delicious choc croissants! At the hotel and time for the Castles tour. We loved the Beautiful Bavarian countryside. As others have said, the interior tour of Neuschwanstein was not that impressive. My suggestion is to Go to bridge and wait in line for the perfect picture and beautiful views. It was a holiday-St Somebody? Forgive me, I can’t remember. This made it particularly busy as the locals were visiting the spots as well. Lots of walking and lots of stairs. We were leftTired but it was worth it. Our Tour guide was a doppelgänger of Aunt Lydia on Handmaids tale, but kind-however, she ran a tight ship! Anyone that was late was openly and publicly scolded. Exhausted at end of day. Feet hurt-needed better shoes. I bought some newer walking shoes that ended up being no good. I spent the rest of the trip in my regular vans sneakers and did much better.

Day 5 We slept in a little-were planning on English garden to see the surfers but there was a bus strike so we just took it easy, re-energized and took train to Vienna. There we enjoyed Dinner at a local cafe and stayed with a friend. She was an incredible host and we saw some of the local sites. Beautiful lit up at night. Great energy in the old city. Cool to see the statues and monuments intermixed with high end shops and street food.
