Hi all, I’m finally getting around to typing up a very abbreviated trip report from a 2017 Thanksgiving trip I took to London, Oxford, Winchester and Bath. I'm posting because I had a first-time experience with taking a continuing ed course at Oxford. Also, I see people post in the forum asking about foreign language classes in Europe and thought I'd share my experience.
Reason for trip:
I’d wanted to take a French language refresher for some time but wasn’t in the mood to spend a full week in morning classes. I discovered that Oxford Continuing Education offers foreign language weekends twice a year (French, Italian, Spanish), and the Autumn 2017 French weekend fell over Thanksgiving. Yay! And Christmas markets would be open. Double yay!
Saturday and Sunday – French refresher classes at Oxford Continuing Education building in Summertown (I could walk there from the Best Western Linton Lodge were I stayed.) I just want to say that the courses were organized well, the weekend was fun, and the instructors were great. Classmates were so friendly. An excellent experience, and I would not hesitate to sign up for a future course with Oxford Continuing Education. Not intimidating at all. https://www.conted.ox.ac.uk/ Keep in mind, though, that these are refresher, not beginner, courses. Most of the in-class instruction was in the foreign language not English.
A great trip. Check out Oxford and Cambridge continuing education and summer programs for adults!
