Overlord Tours, Normandy, Bayeaux, France

My wife and were extremely pleased with our tour on Monday, August 20th, 2018, with Overlord Tours’ Charles Miglierina.

• Charles was inherently knowledgeable of details regarding the Allied/Axis battles in Normandy. It was obvious he knew his facts and was not reading from a script as the typical tour guide does. His knowledge of the minute details was fascinating.
• Charles was very friendly and interesting. We enjoyed talking with him not just about Normandy but about other things as well. He is a recent veteran of the French Air Force, so we had a lot to talk about there, and he grew up in the Normandy region, so he knew all of the back roads and stories only the locals would know.
• Some tour guides drive like maniacs; we absolutely felt safe with Charles behind the wheel. When there was construction on one of the country backroads we traversed to get to a battle site, he was extremely cautious and careful showing particular concern for the tour company’s new van. This shows a lot about his character.
• Charles went out of the way to accommodate folks:
o For instance, one couple on our tour didn’t have reservations and he took them on anyway;
o He accommodated folks’ needs to take pictures, visit souvenir shops, ask intricate detailed questions, and to find rest rooms;
o I’ve talked to friends of mine who took other tours, and it’s clear Charles showed us things folks who used other tour companies didn’t see.
• Charles went to the railroad ticket office to help one couple who had a late train back to Paris try to change their tickets to an earlier train.

o Not many tour guides would go that extra mile to help someone.
o When they weren’t able to change their tickets, he took them somewhere where they could spend their two hours’ time before their train.

The day’s adventure with Charles made us feel as if we were part of his family and he wanted to treat us as such.

I recently took the two day "Neptune" tour from Overlord Tours. It was excellent! There was a different guide each day. On the first day, Mathieu Justin covered the Pegasus Bridge, and the Brit and Canadian landings. On the second day, Alain Mussard did a superb job of explaining the American beaches at Omaha and Utah, as well as the airborne landings by the 82nd and 101st. Both guides were excellent, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the whole Normandy Invasion. I've done a lot of reading about Normandy, and I was very impressed with the depth and detail of these tours.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Overlord Tours to anyone who wants an in depth tour of the Normandy landings!
