Outstanding guide in Granada

The knowledgeable commentary by Margarita Ortiz de Landazuri greatly enriched our appreciation of Alhambra, this historic landmark. She deftly wove an historical tapestry, illuminating the tales of Washington Irving into a living reality of rich memories during our visit there April 2016 . Such enthusiasm and knowledge are valued for the details and depth of understanding and empathy she shared. Every query was energetically embraced and expanded upon. She wove the past conquerors and victors into the artistic niches that remain of this fantastical monument, with skilled accuracy and subtle humour. This is the gift of an experienced and passionate guide. Margarita excelled in all realms of the storyteller and scholar as she guided us through the centuries and complex layers of humanity that have shaped Alhambra. We consider ourselves most fortunate to have had her gentle guidance toward a better understanding of this treasure that has shaped our world. Anyone wanting to immerse themselves in culture, intrigue and enchantment would best serve themselves with a call and reservation for her services. Allow her to time travel you through the extravagances and ruins that continue to mesmerise millions every year on this site. Thank you Margarita.

There are "free" walking tours in every major city of the world. I have taken them in three cities so far, and every one was terrific. The guides were typically well educated and knowledgeable locals with other professional day jobs. Their tours were about pride in their history, culture, and cuisine. And they were not shy about sharing their opinions, on politics, economy, sports, etc. When asked about places to go/dine, they would offer their own favorites, not found in the tourist guidebooks. They were like welcoming friends. Even by tipping them very well, it was a fraction of what I would have to pay for a "professional" guide.

When I visit Granada, I would start with one of these:
