We recently went to Ireland for 4 days before heading to Rome. I was brave and rented a standard transmission car.. which I have not driven in 20-30 years.. laugh #1. driving on the opposite side of the road and little roundabouts that pop up and you are driving over them before you knew they were there because they were flush to the road and not even painted. laugh #2. putting my passenger's window into the road side bushes for multiple courses of leaves and berries to eat (hubby is full). laugh #3. we drove all over southwest Ireland and had a ball. Saw all the sites.. caught a few rainbows but no leprechauns. Thanks Rick for your guide books that gave us the information and courage to travel abroad! We cannot wait to go again... bitten by the travel bug.
My family and I drove Southwest Ireland last year -- in an automatic transmission though! Only so much we could handle! It was lovely and so much fun. Loved the beautiful scenery, the iron age forts, the Guinness, feeding the donkeys, Irish music in the pubs, Shepherd's pie, scones, and the very friendly people. I want to go again too!
