I’m not finding any information on seeing an opera in these ruins. I see what’s playing in July, and I see 4 different prices. How does one know the configuration of the venue, how the seats are situated? Do all seats have cushions? Do the seats all have backs? If I were to purchase 55 euro tickets, will I have an assigned seat or just in a particular area? It seems that there not much about the outdoor opera...I would ask if it’s best to buy tickets once we’re in Rome or use the Ticket One site? Is there another way to buy tickets without going through a big ticket company and paying extra? Can we bring drinks into the area? Has anyone ever gone? What happens it it’s rained out? Thank you for your help!!!!
OP,
I’m sorry I cannot help you very much other then to state I was lucky enough to attend about a decade ago. No specific recall as to seat style and food. I bought my ticket while in Rome at the last minute- i simply got lucky as I was solo on that trip and a single ticket was available. I tried to repeat the experience in later trips but always found it sold out. Thus I would vote for an early ticket purchase before leaving home.
I will say I’m far from knowledgeable in Opera- but that night still sticks out in my mind as an experience of magic just in being there during that evening....how good/bad the Opera was didn’t impact me— it was being within the Baths surrounded by music, simply stunning.
As often happens, the Italian web pages are in better shape than the English. But I couldn't find a seating plan for actual download, separate from a purchase. Try going to the Buy Tickets page, pick a performance and click Buy. Then look at the top right of the selection tab, and click on
Acquista tramite "Scelta in Pianta", which probably corresponds to the Americanski "Select your own seat". (You don't really care, because you're not going to buy anything immediately. I saw a four color seating plan, wedge shaped.

I would caution you that there is nothing casual or rock-festival-y about this operation. It can be expected to be expensive, to sell out, and to be very hot on a Roman summer night. I've been to the historic site, but never to the summer opera festival .
It is not realistic for an out-of-the-country customer to buy tickets with no fees at all. Everyone is on the Internet-Fee gravy train. Your task is to be sure you are on the real website, buying actual physical tickets from the original seller, and that your credit card will let you make a payment to a company in Europe.
Thank you, Cynthia!
I was at an opera performance at the Baths when I was 14 years old. I was with a school group and knew nothing about opera and didn’t particularly want to be there. I can’t remember what we saw, but now, older and wiser, I’m ready to go again...only this time, I’m anxious to see it! Later on my trip, I plan to see Carmen, in the Verona Amphitheater, but their website shows a seating chart and I can clearly see the area where I’ll be sitting once I pay the given tiered price. There doesn’t seem to be a site that shows the seat map for the Baths. I’d like to know how close I’d be to the stage. I appreciate your response and I will plan on getting a ticket before leaving home. I had read that true opera lovers don’t take the Bath performances serious because they are more geared for the summer tourists. It doesn’t really matter, just being in that beautiful place with the music in the night, is a magical experience! Thank you again!
We saw Carmen at the Baths last summer and it was magical. It wasn’t a totally touristy experience. At least half of the people in the audience seemed to be Italians...perhaps Italian tourists, but you’re not going to be totally surrounded by Americans, that’s for sure. A couple of things to keep in mind, people were fairly nicely dressed. I was glad that I had stepped it up a bit from our daytime touring clothes. Also, bring a sweater. While it was hot during the day, it cooled off at night and my sister-in-law.and I switched back and forth using the lightweight sweater that I brought along. You can select your seats when you purchase them. If you wait until the last week or so, your seats will be way in the back of the area for your price point. My daughter and her friends got seats in the lowest price point and they weren’t too bad because they got them right after they came available in about February. The show seemed to be pretty much sold out the night we were there. Also, if you plan to take a taxi back to your hotel afterward, beat it out of there before the end of the ovations. We had to wait an hour in line to get a taxi.
