Norwegian Spirit

The Spirit is the smallest and oldest ship in the Norwegian fleet. I am liking it

However one thing that is very bothersome for me is that there is no TV, none at all, there are no news channels, no sports channel, no kids channels. I do not believe we were ever told this before sailing.

I watch a lot of news so it has presented a sort of problem for me. I have met one person on ship who was very unhappy without his news TV. I imagine the lack of sports programming would bother some.

You a watch these channels on your iPad or phone. And you can upgrade to Internet with streaming but for me, it is not the same. I enjoyed the News Channels.

However Norwegian offers four movie channels that they have put together - Family, Comedy, Drama, and Action. There are a set number of movies on each channel that rotate over and over again The Family Channel offers many movies that would appeal to children. So does the Action Channel

For me, I have learned to enjoy more programs offered on the ship and maybe it is a good thing that we are watching less news these days.

Almost every day is a port day so we are not bored.

Come to think about it, I do not believe there is a library on this ship either. I will have to ask.

I asked Guest Services why no TV and it was explained that it has to do with connectivity while sailing in Japan

I am glad you are enjoying your port stops and the ship overall. I have to confess that I never watch TV while on a cruise so I probably wouldn’t have noticed.

What has been your favorite port so far? Have you enjoyed trying Japanese food?

One of the fun things about cruising in Japan is the sail away performances put on by the ports. Has there been one you particularly enjoyed?

Hi Carol

I really loved Otaru and Niigata but a cruise does not do these cities justice. One needs more hours than a shore excursion.

Members on forum have said that Japan might need to be seen by a land tour, not by a cruise I am tending to agree.

A few hours in these ports is a cruel tease.

Today is Kanazawa and in a couple of days, Hiroshima,

Food, I have had so much food and maybe too much I have had Japanese food but I also did at home. I think I like American Japanese better. In Japan, the Japanese seem to cook lighter which I now appreciate having both diabetes and kidney disease c

I have had lots of noodles, when out and about, I do not always know what I am buying. I stick with street food and point at things.

I am never really certain what is Japanese.

I am so glad to be on this cruise and have finally made it to Japan.

I am glad you are having such a good time. I agree that matching a land tour with a cruise is a great idea.

Ate at the Kenrokuen Gardens today. I do not know what I had but it was ok. It was sticky dumplings covered with a green tea sauce. I could not finish it but I loved the soft ice cream with gold leaf
