Norwegian Airlines LAX-Europe. Loved it!

A quick review. I was trying to read on these newer connections with Norwegian and did not find that many reviews.

Yes, you may pay less for these Norwegian flights but all extra cost more (as long as you know about this; you cannot complain after is what I am thinking). As a solo traveller, it works for me! I would fly with them again tomorrow! Loved them!!!

I had a flight from LAX to Copenhagen in October. Flight was delayed 1:20 minutes which is not a big deal to me and small delays happen with all companies. We landed safely in CPH after a nice flight and helpful staff. I felt a little weak towards end of flight for no specific reason (maybe tired since I left right after many long days of work and went from work to airport). I walked to back of plane to exercice and asked for ice cubes to chew. Flight attendant was very considerate and chatted with me a bit to make sure I was fine. Offered to give me anything I needed (soda or food) and asked for my seat number to check on me. I was fine after a few minutes but very much so appreciated her concerns and sweet approach.

On the way back, I had a CPH to Gatwick flight. It was on time. Good service again.
Then, I had a Gatwick to LAX flight. It was also on time. I brought my lunch and other food. I did purchase snacks and they were fine. The crew was once again very nice and friendly.

Things I liked:
Planes seemed new, was very clean. I like the 'new' lighting and the fact that there is no window blinds but a button to adjust lights. The light on plane seemed easier on the eye than what I am used to. The air seem a bit better than usual as I get often teary/dry eyes and did not on any of their flights. (here is a link with more info: https://www.norwegian.com/us/om-norwegian/fakta/fleet/sky-interior/).

I cannot comment on food since I brought my own.
I got aisle seat when I asked for it but was lucky since I am travelling solo probably. Did not pay to reserve seats on the way back and still got lucky and got an aisle seat when checking-in.

Thanks,
Val

Do you know what type of aircraft you flew on? You did not say what the extra charges were and how much they were. That is helpful when adding additional cost to the basic airline ticket price. Always looking for different airlines to fly to Europe which we do every year. Thanks for any information you might be able to provide.

The U.S. flights are all Boeing 787 Dreamliners--brand new. We flew Orlando to Copenhagen the end of August, and it was great. We too didn't pay extra for seat assignments but my wife and I sat together.

Since their airfare's 1/2 that of the legacy air carriers, don't expect food and drink to be free--and you're charged for checked luggage.
Picnicing on the way over was no problem. Since we were flying out of Bergen, Norway thru Oslo coming back, we were not in the position to picnic. Next returning flight, we're going to buy their full meal on the return flight.
Norwegian Air Shuttle is the third largest budget European air carrier. We're very fortunate to have them flying out of and into the U.S. and to keep flights affordable. Our next trip is into Rome and home from London Gatwick for about $700 in the Spring.

David is correct about everything :) Good job!

I did fly on the Dreamliner (flew October 28th and back November 15th). My ticket LAX to CPH and CPH to Gatwick to LAX was 606 dollars...Yes, with taxes and both ways.
You do have to pay to reserve seats, to check in luggage, for food, drinks (alcohol and juices, etc). But I still find it a good deal for myself since I usually travel solo and do not care about seat reservations (I did notice most families were seating together). Even if I like to check in a bag...still cheaper than most airlines. I hope they continue to fly to the USA!

An airline trade association has just published figures showing that Norwegian's 787 aircraft are the most fuel-efficient of any carrier crossing the Atlantic. By comparison, some of BA's older 747 aircraft use nearly double the amount of jet fuel.

So what are we talking about as far as fee for luggage, etc? And what could you bring (free?) as carry on? Also curious

Depends what type of ticket and where you travel:
https://www.norwegian.com/us/customer-services/travel-information/optional-services-and-charges/

They WILL weight your luggage at the airport...I wish people would do that before heading to airport.
Some people got all upset when they were told their bag needed to be checked in (their bag was too large and/or too heavy)...
I just don't understand that. Anyway don't want to vent too much hehe
There are rules and if you are not happy with them, you are welcome to fly with some other airline for twice the price ;) (depending where you live of course)

Thanks for this information. Well worth considering since I go solo too and LAX to Copenhagen is certainly doable with the right price. What you described here is compatible with my travel style.

The charge last summer for our son's family pp was $59 for 1 checked bag, meal and seat selection for the city pair LAX to LGW. They live in the Bay Area and used us :-) as a shuttle to get them down to LAX but they took an inexpensive Southwest flight to get back to the BA. They allowed a 3-4h layover time between these 2 flights. I believe Allegiant air also has some very inexpensive early purchase flights from LAX to OAK.

Btw, they really liked Norwegian too and would fly with them again.

One gate agent picked me out to weigh my carry on rolling bag. I was 2 lbs. over their 10 kg. in cabin weight limit, and they wanted to charge $50 extra. I offloaded the 2 lbs. into my wife's much heavier bag that we'd paid to have checked. They didn't check anyone else in the line.

Good for you David that you were travelling with someone and could unload stuff :)

They weighted the suitcases (almost all of them) at the gate or right before the gate...while boarding...(I guess even if they weight them at the check in maybe people buy stuff at the airport?!) so I think some people maybe had to check it in if it was too heavy since we were boarding. So I am just warning other solo travellers.

Still love Norwegian and the rules are the rules :)

I was just wondering, if purchasing a ticket w/o reservations, do you just sit anywhere in the class of the ticket you bought; an orderly "free for all"?

They will assign you a seat when you check in and get your boarding pass, just like any other airline.
