Three of us toured the Normandy Battlefied with OverlordTour. A half day tour fit our schedule nicely. Our tour guide, Monique, met us in Bayeux and conveyed us through the villages and country roads to Colleville-sur-Mer and the Omaha Beaches. Monique was from Normandy, and she and her family had extensive knowledge of the battle. We were provided with many details about the beach defenses including obstacles, mines, and pillboxes. She guided us to one of the large caliber guns which showed the scars of naval gunfire support.
Our next stop was Pointe du Hoc where we saw the promonotory scaled by US Rangers. She showed us the large guns which had been moved inland and which were originally in the Maginot Line.
Our last stop was the American Cemetery and Memorial. This final resting place of so many brave warriors was very moving.
Dominique answered all our many questions. We had ample time to take in the sights of this memorable tour. We shall always be grateful to her.
