Perhaps the most overlooked and poignant are the dozens of small British Cemeteries in Normandy.
Some have personal, touching inscriptions on their headstones. The Brits believed in burying them where they fell.
Some include German graves.
I got a fabulous free map of them at the Tourist Information in Rouen.
Also, make a point of watching CBS Sunday Morning WW 2 Widow. We had no problem finding the grave of the pilot in the show in the huge American Cemetery. It's the most decorated grave there!
While it was a great trip, I do regret not taking a tour, so I will be back!
Yes, I agree. We did stop by the cemetery near Bayeaux , close to the D day museum.
A group of British school children were there, they each had a poppy and the name of a soldier to find.
I found looking at the headstones of the German soldiers (most of which were unvisited) very moving esp as they were so young
Hi,
Walking from the Bayeux train station, you do see the British Mil. Cemetery before reaching the D-Day Museum. There are two German cemeteries in Normandy, one is a La Cambre. The Bus #70 did go out there from the Bayeux Gare Routiere....don't know if it still does.
A very moving trip I am sure
