Milan, Barolo, Lucca

We've been to Italy several time - our daughter was married in Orvieto. In May we will travel north for the first time, 3 days in Milan and five in Mango-Alba, near Barolo/ Nieve, then four days in Lucca. Thoughts about things to see in Milan? My CA wine folks tell me this is Italy's premier wine area, so looking for wineries.

12 years ago we stopped one night in Lucca on the way to Cinque Terra. Wouldn't go back to CT, but told ourselves we would go back to Lucca. Seemed like an un-discovered version of Sienna w/out so many tourists. Any thoughts about thing to see there?

Lucca has the wall that you probably saw during your quick trip. Be sure to either stroll it’s top perimeter or rent bikes. I also really enjoyed a cooking class there through Extra Virgin Cooking classes.

I see that you will be very close to Torino, also. I would recommend going there, if possible. Many beautiful buildings from the Savoy history, and the Superga, etc. and Egyptian museum.

Yes, bike ride on Lucca’s walls. There is a park up there. Lucca has certainly been discovered and has many visitors.
Milan, get tickets to visit “The Last Supper” well in advance.
