Muroran, Japan

Muroran is off the beaten path and it is unlikely you will be coming here whether by land or sea.

We ported here because Nagoya had to be cancelled because of a typhoon in the area.

No excursions were offered and there were no shuttle busses. There were taxis to take persons to sights a distance from where we ported. The line for a taxi could take you two hours, some persons were happy with the cost. One was not.

Muroran is a small community, it is rustic. I would not call it beautiful but it had its own prettiness.

We walked along the water to a small park. There was a very old and small aquarium but it was nice. I had a little time before the place got crowded with cruise passengers because I got there early. I saw some fish that I had never seen before, there were also penguins and sea lions.

The other buildings were all small. I am sorry that I missed a gift shop which I was told was very small but had a lot of nice gifts all having to do with environmentalism.

I believe one of the buildings was a senior citizens center, we were across from a school and there was a colorful playground there were places to eat , again small buildings.

One passenger felt the stop was a waste of time and another passenger took issue with that, he felt Muroran was dramatically beautiful.

It was an ordinary place in Japan. Glad for the opportunity to visit

It was probably the most suitable port they could get to. Not all ports can take a cruise ship! I find it interesting to see ordinary places, to see how people in a different country live their lives. Some things are the same, others are so different. I love grocery stores in different places.

Hello ualagirl

Wished we could have ported in Nagoya but could not but I was happy with alternative it was the ordinary Japan that most tourists would never see. I was glad for the experience.

No one was forced to get off of the ship.
