Munich, Salzburg and Tuscany in 2 weeks

I’d like to thank everyone on this forum for the tremendous help in planning the trip, especially the train travel throughout Munich and Salzburg. We also trained between countries, as we wanted to see the different sides of the Alps and we rewarded for this, the Brenner pass was breathtaking. This was our 8th visit to Italy, but we never went to Germany or Austria and I was planning a very busy itinerary. We noticed Germany and Austria to be extremely clean, efficient buses and trains and for the most part, people were very helpful. We stayed at Motel One in both theses countries and I would highly recommend the hotel chain. Very nice and extremely reasonable (under 100 E/night). The food in Germany and Austria is more expensive that what I was expecting, but tasty. Italy is becoming more congested and with that, liter scattered everywhere (reminds me of NYC in the 80s) and the numerous empty buildings. But we love the Tuscan hilltowns, food and wine, so we will return again. Montecatini Terme and Alto was an unexpected treasure, the vistas were incredible. Sirmione on Lago Garda was nice, full of young students learning their history firsthand. Verona is a great home base, but next time we want to go to the Dolomites area. Thank you again for your help!

Some of my favorite places. We stayed in the Dolomites a few years ago and followed Rick's recommended towns and hotels. We lucked out as a town festival was occurring. So much fun!
