Can anyone recommend a private tour group or small group tour in Morocco with a reputable group? Flying in and out of Casablanca. Would like a driver to take us from Casablanca to Rabat, Fez, Sahara, Dades Valley, Ouarzazate and Marrakech. We plan to book our own hotel in Marrakech for several days at the end of the trip. We are not tour bus people.
We used Morocco Fabulous Travel and highly recommend them. Not sure they depart from Casa or Rabat - you'll have to check their website. We did a 3 day private tour (and they also have a small group version):
- Day 1: pick up at riad in Fez, Barbary macaque park, Middle Atlas, ended with camel ride to our tents in the Sahara (Erg Chebbi) near Merzouga;
- Day 2: 4x4 from desert back to Merzouga, women's coop where they make rose oil, ended at nice hotel in Dades Gorge;
- Day 3: Ouarzazate (Atlas movie studio tour), Ait ben Haddou, High Atlas, women's coop where they make argan oil, dropped off at Marrakech medina gate closest to our riad.
You might consider an Essentials tour from Gate 1. It provides 6 nights accommodation, bus transportation between cities, a small amount of included sightseeing, and the services of a tour manager. but the rest is optional. You are free to do your own thing in each location. It is as low level of a bus tour as you can get.

Thank you for the comments. Will check out these suggestions.
In 2019, we had a private tour with Desert Majesty, and it was excellent, and affordable. We also had our own lodging (a riad, not a hotel) in Marrakech, and then went on the Desert Majesty trip after that. We didn’t have Casablanca on our itinerary, but I see that they offer a tour that starts there. They worked with us to customize our tour, and I imagine they would also work to tailor a trip for you, if the standard one didn’t include everything you wanted. https://www.desertmajesty.com/tour-categories/tours/casablanca/
One thing to note - we met another couple who used a different company, and they said their guide took them to countless places for shopping, which they didn’t request or want. Ours did not push shopping on us.
Thank you. I will check this out. I was working with a tour group recommended by a previous Rick Steve's forum. When it was time to make a deposit, I was told the group needed 1/2 up front and the 1/2 in cash when I arrived in Morocco to be paid to the driver.
I don’t recall the exact terms of our payment(s) with Desert Majesty, although I remember that we paid a substantial amount in person, in U.S. dollars, cash. That’s what they wanted, and the bills needed to be in excellent condition.
We withdrew dollars from our bank in Colorado, ensuring they were fresh and crisp. In Morocco, we paid up at their office (not the driver), using those bills brought over in a money belt. Well, our bank’s tellers had put faint marks on the edges of some bills with a magic marker, to make it easier and faster to count them in batches when stacked. That wasn’t acceptable for Desert Majesty’s bank - they checked with it, while we were served hot tea at their office. Ultimately, we went to an ATM to get Moroccan Dirhams to pay the difference for the dollars that weren’t perfect enough.
So they did accept some Dirham, but it was dollars they preferred. Don’t know if post-Covid, the policies have changed, and if inflation or other factors might have contributed to any of that. In the end, the tour was outstanding, even if the cash transactions were quirky. But hey, Morocco’s different. Where else does a market have a camel head hanging outside?
We also used Morocco Fabulous Travel and loved our experience. It was a small van with 4 of us in our group. We did put down an amount (I don't think it was half) as deposit, and then we paid the driver in cash for the remaining. They took dirham, dollars, and Euro. I would say Euro was slightly preferred, but we were allowed to pay with a mix of all three.
I had few days on my own in Morocco last year and then joined a small group tour for 8 days. The company is from Portugal. But I also found it strange that I had to pay for a portion (I think about half) in cash to the driver/tour manager. They requested it in Euros and I was really uncomfortable traveling with that much money on me. And they didn't collect the money until day 2 of road trip.
I rarely join tours and it had been 24 years since I joined one. But the tour was the safest and most convenient way for me to travel as a solo female through several cities.
Checking out Morocco Fabulous Travel. Thx.
Morocco Fabulous Travel's itineraries are here. Looks like there are voyages from Casa, and you could probably arrange to join them in Rabat as they go there from Casa. I found them to be very responsive and flexible. https://moroccofabuloustravel.com/morocco-itineraries
