Monemvasia-Malvasia 2010 Wine

On a recent trip to Monemvasia, one of my destinations after exploring the Castle was to visit the Edodimopolio Honey Shop. What a pleasant surprise!! It is a lovely shop with some wonderful home made products such as the Melitokraso Liqueur (made of honey), the walnut liqueur, home made soaps, wines, creams, loukoumi, almond sweets and spoon sweets. We were greeted by Tsagari Fotini, an amazing woman, who explained the products and encouraged us to taste test some of them. She explained the interesting background of Monemvasia-Malvasia Wine. Monemvasia was the birthplace of this legendary wine but the conquest of Monemvasia by the Turks and the retreat of the population resulted in the devastation of the vineyards and the extinction of this wine. Later the production of Malvasia wine was transferred to Crete and the Cyclades. Almost five centuries later Monemvasia Winery produced 9829 bottles of the Monemvasia-Malvasia 2010 Wine. With the sweet taste of honey, raisin and dried fruit it is an exceptional wine and feels like a historical moment with your first sip!!
