Mom/Adult Son tour to UK, Croatia and France

From Dubrovnik we took an Easy Jet Flight to Toulouse France We chose to take a taxi to the airport as the airport bus from Dubrovnik, only leaves from a stop near the cable car, and it is challenging with stairs and hills and it was vey hot.
We splurged ! Please also note the airport bus also charges for luggage-10 Kuna per bag. The taxi was only around 20 Euros from the Pile Gate.
We came into Toulouse quite late, and stayed at a hotel near the bus station. Somewhat challenging area at night, but was with my son. Would not want to walk this area alone personally. Were thinking about going to Albi the next day, but health issues got in the way.

Took train to Carcassonne and spent 2 nights at the Ibis on Gambati square. The first evening we walked up to the old Cite, and had the local Cassoulet at one of Rick's restaurants. Beautiful time to visit, sunset an the lights came on on our way back to the hotel.
The next day was one of our very favorites. We booked a tour to the Cathar castles with Didier, a recommended guide of Rick's. He picked us up right on time at the Ibis, and we visited three Cathar castles in one day and had an amazing lunch near the last castle. It was 125 euros /person ( cash) but very worthwhile. He got us a discount at each castle, picked us up and dropped us off at the entrances, and was very talkative about many issues. Even with my somewhat limited mobility I was able to go up to each of the three castles, and it is breathtaking !!!!
The next three days we stayed in Colliure, and booked a room at the Princes of Catalan, another of Rick's recommendations. The only problem with this hotel is the air conditioning is controlled to only go down to 24 degrees which really doesn't do the trick. I ended up visiting a doctor there for a prolonged cough. We called the Doctor from Carcassonne, and he gave us in English his office hours, and told us to come right in when we arrived. The waiting room was an experience in itself, but the doctor spent about 25 minutes with me, ( longer than any doctor in the US I have encountered recently) and was extremely helpful. He said that France only allows for Doctors to charge tourists not from France, 25 Euros. I was in luck. I paid him 40 Euros with extra as a tip. He gave me 3 medication prescriptions which I was able to fill at the Pharmacy next door. His office is right next to the central postoffice in the town center.
We took the Petite Train, toured the Castle Royal, and hung out on the beach. It was Bastille Day week-end, and they had a local brass band walking through the streets with local citizens marching behind waving French flags. Also music each night for everyone to enjoy.
We took the train to Perpignan, and stayed at the Comfort Hotel near the train snd bus stations which is once again a challenging area -would not want to walk alone in the evening and there is a grocery store we used for lunch, but for dinner my son walked over to restaurants across from the train station to buy sandwiches for us. The hotel was very affordable but I don't think well used at all. I think we were the only ones staying on our floor. The cost was about 45 Euros. Twin beds, air con and a mini-fridge. We did not go to the old city, stayed in and enjoyed the air-conditioning.
The next day we took the airport bus to the airport which stopped very close to the hotel on the same side of the street and only cost 1.30 Euro each. It comes about once per hour. It has been reported in on-lline chat that you have to transfer busses to get to the airport in the central part of town, but this in NOT the case at least at this time of the year.

Ryanair to London Stansted, and stayed at the Celtic Hotel near Russell Street Tube for our last 2 nights. Great hotel, only concern, beds very stiff, but great breakfast and location. Used the Stansted Express. I hope this helps please reply with any questions. Thanks :)

Sounds like a great trip - however I won’t economize by staying in yucky areas , I have stayed at the Celtic three times though in London and agree it’s a great budget hotel in a wonderful area !

I did this late, so for 2 of us plus a bag each, plus my son's guitar, it was about $285.00, also summer date, etc.

We chose to stay near the bus stations, and airport transfer areas the night before of after flights when necessary-, and we are careful, but I totally understand your comment. We were very safe near our hotel in Perpignana, it was the food options that were limited honestly. The hotel was great.
