Rick Steves' has a brief section in his 2016 guide for France about Maussane and describes it as an "untouristed village." We spent one week in a small house in Maussane and found it to be a perfect base for visiting many cities, villages, markets, and tourist sites. We especially liked it because it was a little "off the beaten path."
We used VRBO to rent this small house. It was a delightful and very reasonably-priced--about a 10 minute walk from the village center. It's a great location for hiking and a golf course is very nearby.
From here, we made day trips to Marseille, Tarascon, Arles, Saint Remy, Eyguieres, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and Les Baux to see the Carrieres de Lumieres. With extra days, we could easily have visited the Carmargue, Orange, Avignon, and more!
