Lovely hotel in Bolzano, Italy: Stadt Hotel Citta

In June 2023 we spent two nights at Stadt Hotel Citta in Bolzano before beginning our Backroads Dolomites trip. I meant to post this review just after. Everything about this hotel was excellent for us. Our room was clean, quiet, and spacious. With our reservation, because we booked directly instead of through a booking site, use of the spa was included. Breakfast was extensive. And I can't say enough for their various reception agents. They corresponded with me in advance, made restaurant suggestions/reservations, and were most gracious in all of their interactions with us. Prices were moderate. I wish we had spent 3 nights in Bolzano instead of 2 and one less in Lugano en route. Heartily recommend.

I spent five nights at the Stadt Hotel Citta in Bolzano in September 2022 and I had the same great experience as you did. Comfortable, clean, quiet room, reasonably priced and with good breakfast. I also found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. In addition, the hotel has an outstanding location on the lovely main square. I too heartily recommend.

Thanks for the tip. We will be going to Balzano next year, but I am already planning our independent trip. As the previous poster wrote, any tips, including traveling there, would be appreciated.

Wonderful hotel, reasonably priced, convenient central location, nice rooms and staff. I would definitely stay there again.

Glad to see concurrence from other travelers about the hotel. We really only had one full day in Bolzano/Bozen. On advice of the hotel, we took the cable car to Oberbozen and then took a long walk on the "Freudpromenade," which was beautiful, easy, and about 10deg than in Bolzano. At the end, we took the little train back to the cable car and ate lunch in a lovely garden setting before going down. Very civilized! Back in Bolzano, we did a little walking but then ducked into the archaeology museum dedicated to the Iceman. This wasn't a priority for us but we were right there. It was fabulous. One of our dinners was at the hotel (not a favorite) but one was a few blocks away at Tree Brasserie. It was recommended by the hotel and we had a lovely meal in their patio at 7:30 once temps had gone down a bit. The hotel made our reservations, so they could probably advise again on restaurants and bookings. The hotel staff are very responsive to email correspondence and helped me with room reservation and pricing. My recollection was that they matched or bettered the prices I was seeing through Chase/Expedia plus at the time direct booking provided free access to the very beautiful steam/relaxation/shower area. I hope this helps. For what it's worth, we had spent the previous three nights in Lugano Switzerland on a friend's recommendation. It was beautiful and I'm not sorry I sent, but we would have preferred less Lugano and more Bolzano! Concerning the Dolomites, we were with Backroads and they planned the itinerary. Each day's hiking was different and all were beautiful. The photos don't exaggerate. For us, hiking boots were more comfortable than trail shoes would have been and I was glad to be using trekking poles. Have fun!
