Lost Iphone

Okay, not so much a trip report as a nice story. I lost my iPhone somewhere between Pompeii and Napoli Centrale. Could it have been the throngs of teens i was squished up against on the Circumvesuviana? Could it have been the "rough" looking men who kept eyeing me and making funny eye contact with their friends? Could it just have fallen out of my pocket? I have no idea. I never felt threatened, never felt in danger, never recall being in a crowd enough to have someone slip their hand in my pocket. Oh well, it was an old iPhone, originally my daughters and passed down to me - two or three generations old by now. Three months later, when I am home, my daughter forwards me an email. The email was from the US consulate in Napoli, someone found the phone on the Circumvesuviana, gave it to the police, they investigated the registry and found it was registered to my daughter, so they turned it in to the US consulate.

In the US this would have ended up in the lost property bin of the police department.

With all of the warnings and stories of pickpockets that we hear, it's nice to hear a story like this.

Sounds like a couple of different people went to a lot of trouble for you and I'm glad that it turned out well.

Thanks for sharing, it made me smile.

How wonderful to hear!! Especially from an area where we mainly get bad news.

Too bad there isn't some way to freeze this and keep it on the top. Along with the recent backpack recovery report, it is nice to hear that not everyone in Italy is a thief out to get you.

jkc,

I am glad to hear you were lucky to get your phone back. It was also nice to hear that you had no idea what happened. You were not pointing fingers, you just took it for a loss. To your surprise, it turned out very good.

imo,

i think most of the people of the world are good.

Its just the bad ones that get most of the press/news.

Who wants to hear about good new anyway.

happy trails.

Terrific of you to take the time to share such good news. Always uplifting to hear a story of selflessness. Bravo!

I love this story, partly for your good attitude at your loss and partly for the outcome. Thanks to a lot of nice, caring people you got the phone back.

Keep on traveling!
