Lisbon, Portugal - Local Guide: Cristina Duarte

Whenever my wife and I travel in Europe we usually hire a local guide for the cities we visit for the first time. Over the years we've had very good success with the guides listed in Rick Steves' guidebooks. This was definitely the case this May when we were in Lisbon and hired Cristina Duarte for the morning of 25 May. We've not met a more delightful guide than Cristina in all our travels. She was articulate, insightful, knowledgeable and accommodating. As first time visitors, we wanted a comprehensive overview of the city and to become acquainted with the essential Lisbon; this is exactly what Cristina gave us. In fact, she gave us such an excellent tour that we vowed to return to Lisbon in the near future to get to know it better; of course, we'll use the services of Cristina at that time. We unreservedly recommend Cristina Duarte.

I will add another glowing recommendation for Christina. She was our guide for the RS Portugal tour in April and was an absolute delight for the entire 12 days. She is a wonderful ambassador for Portugal. Being a native, she eloquently explained the significance of the Carnation Revolution to our group, mostly American. We were in Portugal on the anniversary and enjoyed the festivities.

What else did you love about Portugal? Going in June with teenage boys - Lisbon, Evora, Tomar, Coimbra and Porto. Suggestions are welcome!

Cristina’s mobile is 919-316-242; e-mail acrismduarte@gmail.com. Our best advice is to buy Rick’s Portugal guidebook and work with his recommendations. We’ve been doing this for years for other European destinations and it’s pretty well foolproof; however, we’ve not been accompanied by teenagers or any children for that matter.
